“The conflict between theory and practice in caring for children: Field narrative of a Social Worker”

An opinion paper was published in the Scottish Journal of Residential Child Care. This paper attempts to bring to light, through the experiences of a social worker in India, the present day conditions of the children and the staff in these homes, focusing on the gap between what exists in theory in the law, the increase in the intensity of the trauma that the children experience in a place that is solely built with the purpose of taking care of them, the practical gaps in implementing laws and policies and hopes to provide suggestions to improve these conditions.

“Engagement Redefined: Children and Youth without parental Care during and post Covid-19”

An opinion piece was published in Child and Youth Services Journal which examines Udayan Care’s innovative ways of being able to mitigate the risks thrown by the pandemic led crisis through use of tools such as right assessments, effective engaged interventions and keeping intact the trust of children with their caregivers. It is a huge task for all the social workers, counsellors and administrative staff at Udayan Care to reach out to the over 200 children and 30 youth, who are directly under our care and protection, and the over 50 care leavers in different cities.

“Supporting Youth Leaving Care (SYLC) - An innovative Aftercare Outreach Programme”

AOP is designed to address the unaddressed issues in the transition phase, while a child is still in a Child Care Institution (CCI) and later, in Aftercare, based on the ‘Sphere of Aftercare’; a theoretical framework proposed in the research study and it aims to provide transition and rehabilitation support to Care Leavers.
