History

With an aim to build a full facility to serve orphan or destitute children out of family care and also to serve the underprivileged community, Udayan Care decided to buy a larger property in Greater Noida. Accordingly, an institutional plot measuring 1,172 Sq meter was purchased from Greater Noida Authority at NS-14, Sector Gamma-I, Greater Noida on 19th October 2001. To fund construction of buildings at this plot, various individuals and institutions joined hands for this noble cause, important among them being The Embassy of Japan in India and Jag Shanti Trust. The design was thought of by a young architect, Ms Shriti Johri.

To further raise funds, we applied for 100% tax exemption to donors under 35AC of Income Tax Act 1961 and accordingly it was notified under number 839(E) dated 24.07.2003 for a corpus fund of 210 lacs (INR 21 million) which was enhanced in 2007 to 310 lacs. This exemption had recently expired in April 2017 when the Government of India decided to scrap section 35AC.

The Jagshanti Udayan Ghar (Home) was inaugurated in 2003 by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh at the time, Prof. Vishnu Kant Shastri.

It has the capacity for 30 children at the Ghar and 20 youngsters in Aftercare. The Ghar has a large basement, ground floor, three storeys, a large basketball court and a play area. What makes this Ghar special is that a Skill Centre and an IT centre are both located within its campus. First IT center started in 2004 with support of AIF in the premises of Jagshanti Udayan Ghar. Brig. Narang was the first director of the Jagshanti Udayan Ghar (Home) and he remained till 2012. Later Mr Deepak Sharma joined as Honorary Director.

The children from different Ghars meet here at least twice a year for Summer Camp or the exciting Winter Carnival! Often Greater Noida becomes the meeting ground for our young Shalinis too, as they come together for their annual Residential Camps. In 2016, the Udayan Shalini Fellowship programme in Greater Noida was also started with an intake of 60 girls. Currently, USF is supporting 208 Shalinis at the Greater Noida Chapter.
