Udayan Ghar Program

The Udayan Ghar Program, or ‘Sunshine Homes’, is a distinctive group-home model grounded in the principle of ‘L.I.F.E.’ (Living in Family Environment). It offers a nurturing alternative family setting to children who have slipped through the family safety net.

A Udayan Ghar is a warm, residential home where vulnerable children experience a compassionate, family-like environment. Each home typically houses about 12 children, aged 6 to 18, in single or double rooms, with separate homes designated for boys and girls.

The program focuses on quality education, nutritious food, good physical and mental health, and rich opportunities for growth and development. A dedicated team of caregivers—including lifetime volunteers known as Mentor Parents, professional social workers, and childcare or mental health professionals—provides the love, protection, and guidance children need to thrive. Our homes, located in middle-class neighbourhoods, promote active community participation and social integration, enabling children to grow into confident, responsible, and productive citizens.

Since the first Udayan Ghar was established in Sant Nagar, Delhi, in 1996, the program has expanded to 11 homes across four states in India, supporting over 2,862 children. It has also successfully reunited hundreds of children with their families through robust gatekeeping, family tracing, and reintegration efforts.
