Individuals from diverse fields form our Board of Trustees and Advisory Board, committing themselves to look after different facets of the organization. Bringing their expertise to the table, they formulate policies and plans for the Trust, oversee budgets, finance and human resource development. While some of them also help in developing strategies for communication and resource mobilization, many of them are actively involved as Mentor Parents and USF members.
Dr. Kiran Modi (PhD, American Literature, IIT Delhi) founded Udayan Care in 1994 with the vision, "Making Young Lives Shine." Operating in 40 Indian cities (plus US/Germany/ Canada entities), Udayan Care works on family strengthening interventions focusing on children and youth, through different initiatives, in 3 verticals.
Dr. Modi pioneered seminal research like the 'Beyond 18' study on care leavers, leading to programs like AOP and LIFT fellowships. She founded the influential journal 'Institutionalised Children Explorations & Beyond' (2014) and the BICON conferences, Asia's largest platform for care reform. She also facilitated key care leaver networks in India and globally. Besides she has also been a founder member of UMANG Children's Theatre and and Livercare Foundation. Recognised nationally and internationally, she has received several awards, including the National Award for Child Welfare (2014) on behalf of Udayan Care.
Founder & Managing Trustee
Dr. S. K. Sarin, is one of the worlds leading liver specialists and winner of the prestigious Padma Bhushan. Presently Director of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, Delhi, Dr. Sarin was also professor and former Head of Department of Gastroenterology, GB Pant Hospital. His medical expertise and zeal to add value to the lives of those who need it most, has been indispensible for our children.
Pooja is a seasoned HR professional with global experience (E&Y, FICO, Rio Tinto) in talent, rewards, analytics, and transformation. For over 20 years, she has volunteered with Udayan Care, where she is now a Trustee. Passionate about education and girl empowerment, she founded their Mumbai Chapter in 2016. She supports Udayan Care's capacity building through HR, strategy, fundraising, and impact assessment. Pooja aspires to consult for the social sector, mentoring organizations through the India Leaders for Social Sector (ILSS) people practices program. Personally, she is spiritual, practices yoga, and enjoys pottery.
Mr. Deepak Sharma has been associated with Udayan Care in various capacities.He is a full-time volunteer since August 2013. He is a Honorary Director of 'Jagshanti Udayan Ghar' in Greater Noida, as also Udayan Care's IT Training Programmes. He is the Co-Convenor of the Udayan Shalini Fellowship program at Greater Noida (started in 2016). A qualified Electrical Engineer, he has served in different PSU,Multinationals and Indian corporates for 31 years. He voluntarily quit his job with the Tata Teleservices Ltd, a telecom company, in Aug 2013 to fulfill his long cherished dream and desire to give back to society by getting associated with Udayan Care working for upliftment and education of girl children. He found this , the right platform to accomplish his dream , after being a part-time volunteer initially for 4 years with Udayan Care Noida Homes, from 2009 to 2013.
Mr. Deepak Sharma, apart from being mentor father to the girls home in Greater Noida,is actively involved in Fundraising and matters concerning Policy, Finance and Strategy in Udayan Care.
Ms. Meera Sawhny, has contributed immensely to various aspects of Udayan Care- like finance and HR. In addition, she has been a Mentor Mother to young boys at Udayan Ghar, Mayur Vihar. Presently Ms. Sawhny is the Joint President, Monarch International(Trading company) and Monarch International Travel Services( Travel company)
Ms. Rukmani Haldea, started her career as a Sub Divisional Officer in Rajasthan, retiring as Additional Chief Secretary. Hearing her calling after being the Chief Guest at Udayan Care's induction ceremony for young girls, Ms. Haldea pledged her services to Udayan Care, on retirement. True to her word, she established Udayan Ghar, Jaipur in 2009 with a committee of very enterprising and dedicated volunteer and is also a Mentor Mother to the young girls there. Soon after she started Udayan Shalini Fellowship Programme in the year 2013.
Sanjay Gupta, is a seasoned business leader. He has worked with Tata Group, J. Thomas, Eicher, Pepsi, and Motorola. He joined American Express in 1996, leading global operations and serving as Chairperson in India. As Global CEO of EnglishHelper, he championed tech-enabled literacy for students from low income backgrounds. Sanjay is Advisor for Acumen India, Director of India Leaders for Social Sector and, School of Inspired Leadership. He is a Trustee at American India Foundation Trust, Trustee and Chairperson at Udayan Care.
Former Senior Vice President, American Express (Global Operations)
Mr. Arvind Kumar Gupta serves as an Advisory Board Member at Udayan Care. He is an expert on legal matters, a practicing advocate in Supreme Court, High court, District courts, NCLT, NCLAT, Tribunals and other Commissions. He is Advocate-On-Record in Supreme Court since May 2000. He appeared as Commission Counsel in Justice M.C. Jain Commission (that probed assassination of former Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi). He has also been handling legal matters relating to Finance, Properties, Contracts, education and company disputes for the last 30 years. He is member of the Bar Council of Delhi, the Supreme Court Bar Association, and the High Court Bar Association of Delhi.
Advocate
Akansha Arora serves as an Advisory Board Member at Udayan Care. A seasoned HR professional, Akansha consults with various organizations across various dimensions of strategic human resources. In the Corporate world, her last role was with KFC India as Director - Human Resources, where she was managing the capability and culture-building agenda for a workforce of 12000 people.
At Udayan, over the last 11 years, she has been instrumental in strengthening its various governance frameworks. She strongly believes that the capability and systems of organizations in the Social Sector can act as multipliers for its beneficiaries, and she is passionate about enabling organizations and people in this space.
Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, works with a number of Non-profits. His innovative ideas and professional experience of 25 years in various sectors-Industry, Trade, Agriculture, Training and the Social Sector gives a holistic dimension to projects. Mr. Gupta has contributed extensively towards fundraising, volunteering programme and Management &Training at Udayan Care, besides being on the Board of other organizations.
Mr. Sameer Mehta, a marketing professional for over 24+ years, has specialized knowledge and experience in all the core areas of Below the Line Advertising such as Trade Marketing, Retail Visibility Solutions , Experiential Marketing, Brand & Product Promotions, Retail Merchandising, Event Management, Corporate Seminar, Response Management and Database Management.
Sameer is the CEO & MD and the founder member of the Multiplier Brand Solutions Pvt Ltd ( A One Stop Shop Retail Solutions Company ) Erstwhile DDBMudra Company.
In his previous stints , Sameer has worked as President - Tracylocke India, A DDBMudra Group venture specializing in Shopper Marketing. In his spare time, Sameer enjoys traveling, biking, shooting, reading, and above all provide all support to Udayan Care in ERP Development , Marketing Initiatives and fund raising.

CEO and Managing Director at Multiplier Brand Solutions
After nearly 3 decades of entrepreneurial experience in media, communications and innovative marketing solutions, Anjali has crossed over to the social sector. She has done stints as a volunteer and an advisor at a grassroot NGO, a social incubator, a CSR consultancy before joining Udayan Care as Executive Director.
Anjali is a postgraduate in Economics from MS University, Baroda and has done her MMS from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai in 1988. She is an animal lover and a life member of National Geographic and Heritage Society - Vadodara. She is passionate about mentoring and has mentored many young managers and startup entrepreneurs.
Executive Director
Nagesh is a seasoned finance professional, a Management Accountant from the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India, MBA and B Com (H) from Bihar. He has 19+ years of experience in working with both the development and commercial sectors, including Maruti Udyog Ltd, ITC Limited, Janani and World Health Partners.
He has extensive experience in finance, accounting, audit, and compliance. He has also managed the large institutional donor (BMGF, USAID, Global Fund) funds.

Director, Advocacy, Research and Training, (ART), Udayan Care Leena Prasad is a trained lawyer based out of Delhi with a passion for advocacy on human rights. She currently works with Udayan Care, a 27 years old organisation working to bring sunshine in the lives of the underprivileged. Udayan Care since inception has been a child and youth care practitioner cum advocacy and research based NGO in India, with a strong global presence in the area of Alternative Care.
Leena has over 20 years of experience of working with a range of CSOs, networks and government systems on gender equality, child rights with focus on child protection and alternative care. She has worked in the past with Child Rights and You, Action India and Lawyers Collective, besides many years of being an independent litigating lawyer in India.
Jitesh has extensive experience working in the social sector. In his professional journey, he has been exposed to various work streams, including project planning, operations, implementation, grant management, stakeholder management, and compliance. He has also gained significant skills and experience delivering large-scale social projects that create meaningful impact in the community. He was last associated with the Language and Learning Foundation (LLF).
Jitesh has a Master's Degree in Business Administration with specialisation in Agriculture & Cooperative Management and Marketing Management from Kolhapur University and is a certified professional for 'Result Based Project Management' from ISDM. He likes to travel, meet new people, learn about the culture, and bring happiness and joy to all.
Mukesh Joshi has joined Udayan Care as Associate Director in the USF program. He has 19 years of experience in the social sector. Before joining Udayan Care, he worked with Room to Read India Trust for 13 years in various positions in the domain of Early Literacy. His last association was with Hans Cultural Centre, where he worked for 3 years as a Senior Manager-Education.
Mukesh has done his masters in Rural Development from the University of Rajasthan. He has received extensive training in behavioral psychology. He loves music, traveling, and meeting new people.
Associate Director – Udayan Shalini Fellowship
Swati is a an advocate and champion for children’s rights, combining an MA in Economics, an LLB, and rich hands-on experience in the childcare and legal sectors. As a former member of the Child Welfare Committee, Lajpat Nagar, she has worked tirelessly to protect children, including handling sensitive POCSO cases. With experience at the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, Swati brings both compassion and legal expertise to her work.
Swati has worked with Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi’s initiative, and served as a consultant with the Delhi Commission for Women, leading a team of 32 lawyers in the Rape Crisis Cell. Her dedication continued as a Research Officer at Lawyers Collective, where she deepened her impact through policy and advocacy. Swati truly bridges the best of both worlds—fierce advocate and compassionate leader.
Assistant Director – Udayan Ghar
A seasoned writer and content creator with over 15 years of experience. She holds an English Honours degree from Calcutta University and a Master's in Mass Communication. Her expertise lies in crafting impactful communications through compelling storytelling.
Now embarking on her first venture into the social sector, Sanjjana is passionate about making a difference. An avid reader and classically trained dancer, she also loves writing stories and poems, infusing creativity and depth into all her projects.
Arun Kumar comes with an experience of three decades in the development sector. He hails post-graduation in Rural Development. “There is No Substitute for Hard Work” has been his motto in life. His major contribution has been towards the holistic development of persons affected by leprosy and their families while working in TLMTI. He has also worked on a pan India project for disadvantaged rural elderly, providing healthcare facilities at their doorsteps, working in HelpAge India.
Resource Mobilisation has been his key performance area for the last 15 years. During his last assignment with NLR India Foundation, he was involved in developing a fundraising strategy and setting up the resource mobilization unit to help the organization sustain itself financially.
He has closely worked with some of the reputed international funding agencies like LRI & CORNTD and CSRs of some of the reputed Corporates like ONGC, Coke, SJVNL, BHEL, RBS, KCC, GSK, HDFC ERGO.
He feels motivated and enthusiastic to work with the dedicated team of Udayan Care and believes his learnings of the past are definitely going to be an asset for the organization and vice versa.
Assistant Director – Resource Mobilization
Prashant Singh is a graduate of Allahabad University and a Postgraduate in IR and Personnel Management from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidya Peeth, Varanasi.
Prashant has over 20 years of multifaceted experience in Human Resources Management in the service industry, including logistics and finance. He has also been an entrepreneur for a short time. Throughout their professional career, his key focus has been on employee relations, talent retention, optimal utilization of resources, and organizational development.
This is Prashant’s first venture into the social sector and he is passionate about making a difference.
