For those who chooses sky as the limit,
Udayan Shalini Fellowship is not an aid,
But a faith in oneself.)

Anshita Mishra, Udayan Shalini Fellowship, Batch no. 6

Anshita is a student of B. El. Ed and aspires to be a teacher; her vision: to share the knowledge she gained, with others. Had it not been for the Fellowship, she would also have been one of the many talents that got lost in the crowd, undiscovered.

Volunteer Speak

This time, we thought, instead of writing and explaining our Outreach Programme, we will take you through by means of pictures. So here, we have, our summer holiday homework for the children which was aimed at keeping the minds sharp and ready for the new session, occupying the children in creative activities, as also to increase their general knowledge.

Spoon & Marble race for the trainees

To rejuvenate the enthusiasm and spirits of the students at the training centre, the Kishwarna Udayan Care IT & VT Centre at Badarpur organized a small event full of activities for all its students. There was poster making, marble race and candle lighting race as well which led to the prize distribution ceremony. This was what was rightly called for; after all, ‘All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.’

We are proud to announce on board, our new corporate volunteer partner, Taylor and Francis Group, the publishing house. As a start of the volunteering partnership, the employee volunteers carried out various activities ranging from arts and crafts, quizzes and educational movies across five Udayan Ghars. As Priyamvada says, “We bid goodbye to the girls, promising to return, and left deeply touched by the warmth and affection we had received from the children. While this may have been one day spent at this home on behalf of T&F India, I’m sure I will be back again to spend more of my time with the bright young girls at the Udayan Care Home.”

The children all across, from the youngest to the oldest thoroughly enjoyed and they kept asking for more even after the volunteers left! Welcome Taylor & Francis, we hope you have a memorable stay!

Our Bigs and Littles!

We are glad to inform you, we have nine more big friends joining us under our Big Friend Volunteer Programme. We welcomed each one of them as they came for the 1st training and matching on the 19th of June. A warm welcome to each one of you.

E-volunteers!

Latest to join us, our e-volunteer Susie Young.
Latest to join us, our e-volunteer Susie Young.

Volunteering, if one wishes and is willing, there is no end to it. A one-of-its-kind-initiative, Udayan Care has started e-volunteering. This idea occurred to us as we kept wondering how to connect our donor directly to its beneficiaries. Thus, we started e-volunteering where employees from one of our donors ASOS, UK’s largest independent online fashion and beauty retailer chat directly with our children online. Each employee has one child to them to mentor and guide them while being a good friend to them. The volunteers and children were matched, taking into account, similar interests and other such traits. We welcome Elle Laird, Francesca Yarnit, Jennifer Heath, Nadia Sukharisingh and Susie Young, our first ever e-volunteers, to Udayan Care.

Our Dedicated Lot!

Meet our new volunteers from across the globe, who joined us in the past two months, Abby Madan, Heather McTravis, Yashomati Goyal , Lydia Lund and Simerun Singh from USA; Allison Behringer, Benjamin Cogan and Aunna Wilson from Princeton University; Andrew Fullarton and Jess Boughan from London; Adesh Persaud from Canada and Sarah Hunet Ciclaire from France.

We also have Titaas Mitra from Manipal Institute of Communications, Vibhuti Happa from Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communications, Vaila Sophie and Sanhita Singh from Assam University, Chandana Raizada from Mudra Institute of Communications and Pragya Sharma, Nishita Verma, Harsimran Kaur from Delhi University who have joined us to share their skills as interns.

Even schools have started their awareness drive among their students! Blue Bells School has also tied up with us for their students to volunteer and we must say, the dedication and enthusiasm with which the children completed their 40 hours of community programme is commendable.

Welcome and have a nice stay to all!
