Ruhi Udayan, our alumni from Mehrauli Home who is now working with Intele Net gets engaged! As the 5 Mentor Mothers of Mehrauli Udayan Home vowed to give away Ruhi in marriage to Surendra, a man of her choice, Udayan Care rejoiced and blessed her with a happy future. Wedding bells are also in the offing for Monica Udayan, our alumni from Sant Nagar Home with Mayank, a man of her choice.

Towards the Cause!

Udayan Care since its inception has been trying to bring up disadvantaged children through a strategy called LIFE i.e. ‘Living in Family Environment’. Interventions of the HOH sponsored Mental Health program have made us realize that it is extremely important for the people dealing with traumatized children to receive a formal training in ‘Parenting’ so that the daily problems ofchildren can be dealt with, in a more professional manner. Thus, it was decided that the caregivers should be empowered first, as they are the ones dealing with the children, 24x7.

Getting better and better

Thus a training on ‘Parenting Skills’ was imparted to the Caregivers of our Children’s Homes, by Dr. Shilpa Gupta, a practicing Psychologist. Dr. Shilpa Gupta received the training from Ms. Louis Williams, an American who is associated with the Love Humanity Foundation.

Topics such as Preventive and Effective teaching, Exercising Self Control and Effective praise were discussed and the 11 Caregivers from 8 of our Children’s Homes, who participated also practiced the same in order to make themselves better equipped with understanding and handling children.

The Groundwork!

As we set to take bigger leaps, and open newer homes beyond our vicinity, it is very essential for us to strengthen our roots so that the essence of Udayan Care does not get lost. It is only due to the intervention of our Mental Health Program that we were able to realize the gaps in our Program and have stopped working through trial-and-error method.

Thus, in the month of September, Dr. Deepak Gupta conducted a workshop with our existing Mentors in an attempt to develop an orientation/ induction program for the new Mentors who will be inducted at our new homes, as we expand.

In October, as a follow up, Ms. Antra, the Sr. Program Coordinator took the Mentors through the different practices that were being followed at different Homes and encouraged them to take certain unanimous decisions regarding policies pertaining to education, vocation, exit and marriage of the children.

Festive Minds!

Lights! Camera! Action!

Colourful ‘Rangoli’, lighted homes and sparkling interiors greeted Goddess ‘Lakshmi’ when she came in search of our children this Diwali. Sincere prayers touched the golden heart and the Goddess bestowed our children with lots of love and benevolence.

Bhai Dooj was yet another occasion when the children from all the Homes came together to spread the message of love and brotherhood. Indraprastha Park in New Delhi saw 130 children from 8 Homes bonding emotionally with each other and taking blessings from their Mentor Parents.

Corporate Connection!

Rocket Science, is it?

Children at Sant Nagar received an opportunity to participate in a painting competition organized by HUDCO, where they were asked to paint ‘The city of their Dreams’. Paintings made by the children reflected their level of mental maturity and understanding as each one of the paintings revolved around keeping the city clean and green. Representatives from American Express took all our kids at Gurgaon to the Science Museum. Children just loved the visit!

Hear them say…

Our donors from Kusuma Foundation, Director, Mr. Ravi Raju and Program Officer, Mr. Sriramulu, visited our office at Dehradun and interacted with several Fellows. Girls related to them how attending workshops and residential camps under the USF Program brought positivity in their lives and how informed and strengthened they feel now.

Ms. Shweta, an Udayan Shalini Fellow, on clearing CSIR-JRF NET Exam writes……

Every time someone congratulates me for this, something inside me says, “I AM NOT THE ONE BEHIND THIS. I couldn’t have done this alone. Some really wonderful people have helped me tremendously in reaching here. The ones who’ve DONE THIS COUNTLESS TIMES BEFORE through the minds they’ve being training so meticulously... Yet not asking for the credit even a single time… ...

So today I would take this opportunity to THANK YOU for all the amazing things you have taught me; for all those encouraging words; for all the times you corrected my faults, sometimes without even letting me know; for all those sweet smiles and for your MOTHERLY AFFECTIONS that made me feel so special…

The calendar is a stylish, well-designed, black and while table calendar; the photos shot so lovingly by the renowned, upcoming, photographer, Prarthana Modi; the dates have spaces on the reverse side for personal notes. The calendar has been a labor of love of several volunteers like Katharina, Benedikt, Nicole and our children, who together created this beautiful diary to put down your own thoughts, appointments, etc. in; while getting inspired by what our children have done on some of the pages.
