Recently a workshop on ‘Decision Making’ for the Shalinis was conducted by Mr. Ashish Agarwal, one of our Committee members, taught the girls how important it is for them to focus on right outcomes, while making decisions. A quarterly workshop on Yoga was conducted by Mr. Harmeet Indoriya, Yog Pramukh at Ram Ram Ji Yog, Premnagar Aashram, for the Shalinis of Haridwar Chapter, with a motive to make our girls aware about their health and to help them in managing stress in their lives.

Mrs. Asha Gupta introduced Indo-French Cultural Society’s new scheme by the name of “APARAJITA” under which they shall provide free coaching in basic computer skills and proficiency in written and spoken English for the girls.

An RBS Mentor Mentee Meet was organized where Shalinis along with their assigned RBS and core committee mentors assembled in their individual groups. The discussion was mainly focused on knowing more about each other and talking about their personal, social and academic struggles and achievements.

On International Women’s day, Genpact premeditated a visit in its Silokhera office, where the USF girls had a breakfast interaction with two of Genpact’s international partners. “They exactly knew what they are going to do in life,” said one of the clients.

In addition to all, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign was organized in collaboration with the government, with the purpose of disseminating the communication in the rural part of Gurugram with a theme of education - preparing girls for a life of choices. With the zest and zeal of giving something back to the society USF girls went into the locality of Narsighpur Village where they displayed banners, recited slogans, distributed pamphlets and interacted with locals and made every possible effort to educate them about the importance of educating a girl child and how important it is to let a girl bloom in this world and how she can be a support to a family and not a burden.

In a constantly changing environment, having life skills is an essential part of being able to meet the challenges of everyday life. The current generation shall play multiple roles in personal and professional lives and to balance and deal with associated pressures is skill that they must have. To ensure holistic development such that the children and youth are ready for the future life skills training form an important part of Udayan Care programmes. On 24th March, 2017, American India Foundation(AIF) took an initiative to celebrate Life Skills Olympiad - 2017. Students and the team at Udayan Care Youth Leadership Centre actively participated to make this Olympiad a success. Activities towards Goal setting, team building, self-awareness and trust building exercises attracted many students .

One of the Hyderabad based e-commerce sites, “My dream store”, recently conducted a webinar to teach the basic tools of Photoshop to the students of UCIT. The 1:30 hour session was conducted by Ms. Garima Shukla, Head Designer. It was indeed a great learning experience for our Graphic & Print Design students.

A one day consultation and awareness session on ‘Trauma Informed Care: Concepts & Practices for Children in Alternative Care’, the first of its kind, was organised by Udayan Care on 17th of March 2017 (Friday) at New Delhi. The Consultation was attended by Shri Oma Nand, Director of Mental Hospitals at the MoHFW along with Dr. Manju Mehta, as the chief guests. The eminent resource persons were Dr. Monisha Nayar-Akthar, Dr. Deepak Gupta, Dr. Naveen Grover, Dr. Rajesh Sagar and Dr. Jitendra Nagpal. The consultation targeted specific problems that arise in the following settings in the context of children living in alternative care: the juvenile justice enforcement system (including courts and police stations), child care homes, foster families, adoptive families, educational institutes, hospitals and in accessing other service facilities. Experts, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, volunteers, members of various Child Welfare Committee, DCPU officers, counselors, senior NGOheads and civil society members came together to discuss aspects of trauma informed care for children living under alternative care. The consultation was made possible only due to the generous funding provided by Ms Gerlinde Buechinger Schmid, a great votary of Child Rights.

I am so heartened and hopeful by the presence of such spaces in the city. Trauma is an ambit of overwhelming work, and often has a huge paucity of numbers and resources compared to the need in the city.
